WHAT DO WE DO?The Local Connection supports international students and graduates and teaches them the social skills needed to interact, network and bond with local Melbournians. The knowledge presented in each session will assist participants in gaining the confidence and communicative ability necessary for job interviews, university classes and social settings. The Local Connection helps internationals thrive in Melbourne.
"The Local Connection is local young people sharing the inside knowledge about how youths behave, interact and socialise in Melbourne."
WHO ARE WE?Phoebe Barnes - Founder
Through her work at her school’s boarding house, Phoebe recognised the challenges young internationals come across when relocating to Melbourne. Not only were her students trying to navigate a new city alone, they often felt misunderstood and isolated. They also lacked confidence in the language and struggled to bond with the local students. Therefore, Phoebe decided to launch The Local Connection. With this program, Phoebe is determined to support as many internationals as she possibly can so that they feel comfortable and motivated to thrive in Melbourne. She believes that The Local Connection will provide the skills necessary for job interviews, university classes and social settings.
